The hotel is situated in idyllic surroundings in the small hamlet of Sandkås - dominated by peace and tranquillity. Only a few metres from the sea, sand and beautiful rocks of northern Bornholm. Time to pamper yourself: In the spring of 2006 LeWel Wellness and Health Centre opened its doors at Hotel Friheden. The centre offers everything from massage and zone therapy to body peeling and facial treatments.
The hotel has 44 rooms. All rooms have a kitchenette, refrigerator and bathroom with shower, toilet and heated floor. Telephone, radio and satellite TV is standard.
Double rooms The double rooms are 28 m2 with private balcony/terrace with garden furniture. Possibility of extra beds for a maximum of 2 people.
The rooms are at different floors. If you wish to ensure a sea view, you may order one of the eight rooms with the best view. The rooms are situated above the hotel's restaurant and have direct sea view. Surcharge of DKK 100 per day.
Double rooms DELUXE We have renovated the building to provide three double rooms DELUXE. The rooms all have direct sea view from the bedroom with access to a small sunrise terrace. The rooms also include a separate living room and kitchenette with access to a private evening terrace with garden furniture.
Apartments If you are 4-5 people travelling together and wish to share accommodation, our apartments are ideal. The apartments are 55-65 m2, holding 2 separate bedrooms, kitchen open to living room and bathroom with toilet and shower.
Swimming pool, Sauna & Spa All hotel guests have free access to the swimming pool. The pool is heated to 25-26 degrees during hotel opening hours. There are separate changing rooms at the swimming pool. The sauna is free.
Cafe / bar The hotel’s cosy café offers a wide range of coffees, cakes, drinks and draught beer – we serve beer, brewed locally at "Svaneke Bryghus". You will also find the day’s paper and a variety of games at your disposal. Every afternoon between 16.00 - 18.00 is happy hour with draught beer and drinks at good prices.
Bike hire The hotel has 20 bikes. The bikes are city bikes with 3-5 gears and most are fitted with a handlebar basket. We have a few children’s bicycles and you may hire a child seat.
Restaurant The hotel restaurant is placed in the main building and has a panoramic view of the Baltic Sea. The restaurant also has a covered terrace.
Hotel Friheden In 1946 the Kjøller family built the hotel, then called Pension Friheden. The hotel was run by the family until 1993, in which John K. Stender took over the hotel. In the mid-1970s Hotel Friheden partially burnt down and was immediately reconstructed. In 1988 the hotel was substantially enlarged. In this connection, a new wing with 23 rooms, a wing with common facilities, the reception and the swimming pool area with pool, sauna and spa were built to improve the quality of the hotel. John Stender has worked closely with his son-in-law, Klaus Juhl, to renovate and develop Hotel Friheden, so that today, the hotel is one of Bornholm’s finest and most well-managed hotels. On 1 April 2005, John’s daughter, Mie Juhl, and her husband, Klaus Juhl, took over Hotel Friheden. The couple shares the day-to-day management of the hotel.
