Description and facilities
All visitors to Grizedale Lodge can be assured a warm welcome, friendly attention and of every effort being made to ensure that their stay is enjoyable. The Lodge is wonderfully central for all the many attractions - historical, cultural and natural - that Lakeland possesses. Two miles away is the picturesque village of Hawkshead with its Inns and Restaurants and the historic Grammar School that Wordsworth attended - and whose name is still to be seen scratched into the desk - and there too is the Beatrix Potter exhibition. One can walk over the hill to the rear of the Hotel to Brantwood, home of John Ruskin, and Coniston Water. The visitor can drive through lovely scenic roads to Lakeside and choose to travel on the preserved Railway or on the steamers that ply their way the length of Windermere to Bowness and Ambleside. Alternatively, a short drive takes one to the popular market town of Ambleside or to Sawrey and the car ferry to Windermere or one can head easily towards Grasmere and beyond. Being at the heart of the Lake District means that nothing and nowhere is too far!

Grizedale Lodge is set on the edge of the magnificent Grizedale Forest the origins of which date back to Monastic times and the name itself hints at the old Norse name for the Wild Boar. The countryside presents an ever-changing tapestry of colour, especially in Autumn. Deer can be glimpsed in the forest and there is a fascinating variety of bird and wildlife to be observed. Few places offer as complete a sense of escape yet are also as easily reachable as Grizedale where city and stress seem to belong to another world. Certainly, the stars shine more brightly here!

In summer the balcony & patio are the perfect places to take one's ease after a long day spent either exploring the walks that start at the front door or travelling further afield and relaxing for a night-cap before a well-earned rest. The Lodge is not just Bed & Breakfast but a beautiful place to be for those who want somewhere a little bit better! A splendid centre, allowing a full and free day of discovery, knowing at night there is nowhere nicer to return to rest.

Guests can satisfy the heartiest of appetites at the start of the day in the attractive breakfast room which overlooks the balcony and the forest. A splendid array of fresh grapefruit, juices, prunes, yoghurts and cereals and winter-warming porridge laced with whisky and a full platter of a combination to choice of Cumberland suasage, locally cured bacon, hash browns, mushrooms, tomato and eggs cooked to your liking.

Guests can, without a worry about parking, if they so wish, step out of the Hotel and explore the forest walks and discover the fascinating sculptures that surprise and delight the eye or catch sight of the deer that roam free. Grizedale Visitors' Centre is a strolling distance away and houses a craft and artists' workshop. For those who wish, other pursuits such as trout fishing, can be arranged. The area has many scenic and challenging golf courses and off-road cycling is popular.

As always, we are seeking perfection at Grizedale Lodge.  The 'Forest Suite' offers superbly furnished four poster accommodation, which will grace any occasion, having private access to the balcony with it's tranquil views across the valley to the forest beyond - an idyllic place to relax and enjoy the scenery or perhaps a drink or two.  It's elegant ambience makes it ideal for that special - even romantic - escape, and to compliment this a champagne breakfast can be ordered and served in the privacy of the room, if desired.

In the Lodge all bedrooms offer en-suite comfort with tasteful decoration, colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The fine four-poster rooms provide, for those who wish it, especially luxurious accommodation.
