Hotel Hellsten is located in a building dating from 1898. The hotel designer and founder, has kept the old style of typical bourgeois family flats, with some rooms having "kakelugnar", a Swedish style of tile or porcelain chimneys, and stuccatio and wooden panels. The rooms are all individually designed to reflect their natural advantages, which means a stay at the Hellsten is both a pleasure and an aesthetic experience.
There are a number of labels that could be used to describe Hotel Hellsten - Design, Hip or Boutique being three of them. The founder's firm intention, however, is that the hotel should be a meeting place for travellers of all disciplines and interests, and become their home while staying in Stockholm.
Our concept It is our job to recreate a hotel with its own unique spirit. The spirit must be borderless, crossing all nationalities and cultural interests. It is an art to create a hotel, just as it is to paint, write, or create music. That has been the driving passion behind Hotel Hellsten.
Our dream is that this hotel will be a place where people from many artistic disciplines intersect and where busy business people can make effective use of their time while enjoying relaxing and inspiring surroundings. 12 of Hotel Hellsten's 78 rooms have traditional porcelain stoves, in beautiful colours and forms. Interior design and furnishings change from room to room. Some rooms feature various antiques, including Swedish farm antiques, while others have a distinct Asian touch. The rooms have the necessary support functions for a productive and relaxing stay with TV and free broadbandaccess.
The bathrooms all have showers, and there are some with a bathtub as well. The bathrooms are tiled with Karystos stone on the walls. Karystos is a rich, grey slate, which has been imported from a quarry on a Greek Island. All bathrooms are equipped with floor heating, towel dryer, hair dryer, telephone, etc. Opposite Hotel Hellsten on Luntmakargatan with the same owner is Rex Hotel.
Hotel Hellsten offers different conference solutions. At present we have two specially designed meeting rooms with a capacity of up to 40 people. Shortly two new facilities will be ready, one of which holds up to 150 people. All our facilities are equipped with overhead, whiteboard and spreadsheets as well as wireless broadband and video screens. Laser Projectors can be rent per agreement. "The founder's Great Great Grandfather, Carl Fredrik Hellsten had, in addition to his job as a mining expert, an inn in Ljusnarsberg in the Swedish county of Bergslagen. He had inherited this inn from his father. In 1871, some time after the great famine in Sweden, he decided to get rid of this enterprise. He wanted to move to Stockholm for a safer existence and so that his sons could get an education. His first thought was to start a small hotel business but reality did not want this. Instead he found himself working hard as a clerk to feed his family. They lived in the parish of Adolf Fredrik in Stockholm. They had their residence at Kammakargatan, two blocks away from the hotel. Carl Fredrik's son Johan, who became a publisher of architectural books, had his shop at Drottninggatan and his home at Luntmakargatan, the street where the Hotel Hellsten is today located. In 2004, 130 years later, Hotel Hellsten opens its doors to continue a family tradition.
