Esplanade's charming interior is being continually and lovingly restored in its original style to provide our guests with a pleasing environment during their stay in Stockholm. The hotel is family-owned and we strive to make every guest feel at home. Hotel Esplanade combines an excellent location with the pleasure of personal service and a feeling of a home away from home.
Hotel Esplanade first opened in 1910, designed by architects Hagström & Ekman in the style of the times, Art Nouveau. It was considered very modern in those times with running water in all rooms, and bathrooms in some guestrooms. Original furniture was carpeted at NK furniture factory in Nyköping.
It was operated as a boarding house with long term residents who were perhaps waiting for a flat or either moving in or out of Sweden. The name of the establishment at this time was Dehns Pensionat, and was at the head of the dinner table placing the guests according to her wishes. In 1945 new owners took over and changed the name to Hotel Esplanade. Extensive refurbishing has taken place over the years, in 1975 showers and WC was fitted in all rooms.
In 1986 the present owner family bought Hotel Esplanade. Thanks to the small number of different owners over almost 100 years most of the original interior decor is well preserved. Gentle renovations is being constantly undertaken and in 2004 a small sauna has been added, cable TV is installed and there is speed connection guest computer available. Also in our days we have some guests staying for a longer period, mainly from the world of moviemakers. We do hope you will find yourself at Hotel Esplanade and we hope to see you soon.
The lovely Art Noveau building houses the cosy Hotel Esplanade with its 34 rooms. Every room is uniquely decorated and fitted with a shower and WC en suite, radio, cable television and a minibar. All rooms and common areas are beautifully decorated, most of them with original furnishings from NK.
