You notice it as soon as you step inside the door. Birger Jarl in Stockholm is a hotel full of surprises. We have created Sweden’s first hotel with the concept of modern Swedish design. Red ochre, the murmur of wind in the birch trees and many contemporary details. You are welcome to come in and discover our personal world again and again!
We have created Sweden’s first hotel specialising in modern Swedish design. Sweden’s best contemporary interior architects and designers have helped us with the renovation process. The traditional red tone of the walls in the lobby recalls old-fashioned Swedish colour schemes, while each object within it has a modern feel. You will be surrounded by a highly creative atmosphere. All room categories, whether standard, business or signature, are designed to unite functionality and aesthetic appeal. We offer a multitude of different items to observe and examine. This gives you the chance to discover something new every time you visit us.
After a while, you may find that you have a fondness for a particular room that you wish to return to whenever you stay with us. Just make yourself at home and enjoy the experience.

The Retro Room The room where time stands still. It was a bright, sunny day and the renovation work on the hotel rooms was almost complete. The workmen started to dust themselves down, pack their brushes and tools and prepare to head for home. But when the protective plastic sheeting was later removed from the walls, we were somewhat surprised. Room number 247 had not been renovated! Located as it is at the very end of the corridor, it had quite simply been forgotten. Today, room 247 remains just as it was, a symbol of the Seventies and the way Hotel Birger Jarl once looked.
Hotel Birger Jarl is both a meeting place and a sanctuary. You can meditate quietly over a cup of hot coffee in the lobby,or meet up in the bar before dinner. Bruno Mathsson’s Boardroom This spacious boardroom is characterised by the well-known designer, Bruno Mathsson’s functional yet aesthetically attractive furniture – comfortable to sit in while conferring throughout the day. The same comfortable chairs, although in leather, were put to good use by delegates during Sweden’s chairmanship of the EU recently.
Källemo’s Conference Room Simple, calm colours create harmony and balance in Källemo’s conference room. You will like to sit here for a long time and discuss, not least on account of the pleasant chairs, a classic from the 1950s, carefully designed by Bruno Mathsson. The red TV and video cabinet has been designed according to Feng Shui proportions by designer Anne-Christine Axelsson, while the rest of the furniture comes from the company.
Axelsson’s Conference Room A room for the “ah! experience”. When furniture designer, Åke Axelsson, designs conference rooms, function and flexibility come first. The opportunity of furnishing for large groups, as for smaller groups, while retaining comfort, is an obvious inherent property. Light and air must permeate the room, in combination with really comfortable furniture.
Conference Room Birger It can only be as Swedish as this with comfortable chairs from Bruno Mathsson and drapes in wonderful colours with patterns especially designed for Birger Jarl by textile designers, Anna Sörensson and Harriet Lundh.
