The Strand is located right in the heart of the city, and boasts one of Bergen’s greatest views. From the sun terrace and indeed from most of our rooms and suites, you can see some of Bergen’s finest attractions such as the Fish Market, “Bryggen”, “Vågen” and “Fløien”. The Strand is quite a historical hotel. The building itself and the surrounding area, in which the hotel is located, were built in the late 1920’s. Originally, the building housed two separate hotels named “Fønix Hotel” and “City Hotel”. Olaf Jørgen Strand bought the two hotels in 1969, and united them to the hotel that today is the Strand.

Bergen By, Rom 407 This room is a large double room with a sofa group facing the Fish Market directly. The room is decorated with both historical and contemporary pictures of Bergen City. The room is also suitable for a family of four persons.
Hurtigruten / Seilskutene, Rom 510/511 These two guestrooms are situated side by side on the fourth floor. The rooms are furnished identically but mirrored, with a sofa group facing the lovely view of the Fish Market and “Bryggen”. The floors are made of authentic ships’ plank and slate. The rooms are decorated with maritime details to create an individual look. “Seilskutene” is decorated with pictures of various sailing-ships, while “Hurtigruten” is furnished with pictures of different “Hurtigrute” ships. Additionally, the two rooms are suitable for families, and if required, the rooms can be made into one big room by opening the doors that separate the rooms.
”Statsraaden" Rom 609 “Statsraaden” was opened in May 2001, and is located where our breakfast room used to be. To give the room a maritime feel, we have kept the original ships plank. The room is a tribute to the world’s oldest barque, the “Statsraad Lehmkuhl”. The room is situated on the fifth floor from where you can enjoy the view of the Fish Market and “Bryggen”.
”Kapteinens Cabin" Rom 310 This room, which is located on the third floor, has a beautiful view. The room was opened in April 2000. The Cabin is suited for meetings for 2-10 people. The room is decorated with pictures of famous vessels from the west coast.
”Nummes Cabin", Rom 710 This room was opened in February 2000. Situated on the sixth floor you have a great view of the Fish Market. “Numme’s Cabin” is a tribute to Yngvar Numme, Norway’s “king of light entertainment”. Pictures from his life and career are on display in this room.

In 2000 “Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibselskab asa” (OVDS) bought the Strand Hotel. OVDS also owns 6 of the 11 “Hurtigruten” ships, and is a major participant in the Norwegian transport and tourism industry.
