The Mount Herbert Hotel at Sandymount is adjacent to the famous Lansdowne Road Stadium, home to Ireland's Rugby and Soccer international fixtures and major pop concerts. With Lansdowne Road DART station just a three-minute walk from the hotel, guests can easily access most places of interest in and around the wonderful city of Dublin The Point Depot and the RDS concert venues are nearby, as is Temple Bar, heart of Dublin's nightlife. Mount Herbert Hotel is sited on the old Haig's Distillery. The Distillery was set on 21 acres, and operated from 1769 to 1860. The nearby river Dodder supplied power to the Distillery, through a sluice running wheel on the river.

The Distillery was founded by Robert Haig, who was descended from John Haig, Laird of Bemersyde, the first Distiller of the famous scotch whisky. The hotel consists of a terrace of interconnecting houses which were originally constructed in 1866, and were built with bricks from the old Distillery.

From 1866 until 1955, the houses were stately Dublin homes, and some well known people resided here, including Lord Henry Robinson, a well known businessman at the turn of the century, and more recently, Mary Kenny, journalist and writer who is now based in London.

The Mount Herbert Hotel was founded in 1955 by George & Rosaleen Loughran and since then has seen its size and facilities develop to become one of the city's most popular hotels. Their son, John Loughran, is the present owner/director.

The Loughran Family have been welcoming guests to Mount Herbert Hotel for over 50 years, and it is renowned for the warm and friendly atmosphere. Mount Herbert Hotel is located near the city centre in the heart of Ballsbridge, Dublin's most exclusive area, where the city's rich and famous and indeed many diplomatic embassies are based.

Mount Herbert Hotel is a 3-star family run hotel with 168 bedrooms, 9 conference suites, Business Centre, Cordyline Restaurant, Tritonville Bar and other facilities. It is located 10 minutes from the City Centre in Sandymount, Dublin 4, Dublin's most exclusive district, where most of the diplomatic embassies are based.

There are between 80 and 100 people working at Mount Herbert Hotel in the various departments. As well as locals working at the hotel, there are many staff from other parts of Ireland, United Kingdom, Europe, and indeed worldwide. Mount Herbert Hotel regularly employs full and part time staff, as well as overseas staff seeking temporary experience working in Ireland. These overseas staff are generally expected to stay for a period of not less than 6 months, and preferably longer.
