Sjávarkjallarinn (Seafood Cellar Restaurant) In Sjávarkjallarinn the chefs offer an ever changing menu based on Icelandic “fusion cuisine”, with Asian influence. A special emphasis is on Icelandic seafood at its best. The wine list numbers more than 100 labels, creatively categorized by grapes rather than wine regions. About 1 minute walk from Hotel Plaza.
Einar Ben The restaurant Einar Ben is located at Ingólfstorg at the heart of the city centre, in the liveliest area by the main square, in a typical turn of the century timber-house. There a feast awaits you that echoes the opulent times of the poet and entrepreneur Einar Benediktsson who in the 19th century made his mark on the nation. Many Icelandic idioms and phrases are derived from his poems which are his greatest legacy. The decor in the Icelandic room is characterised by the Icelandic flag’s colors, the azure basis of the sea and sky, the snow-white color of ice and purity and the vermillion color of the glowing from the earth within, perpetually forming and transforming the land. The menu is drawn from classic French/British cuisine with an Icelandic twist. Great emphasis is put on the quality of the ingredients and food preparation. The ever changing collection on the menu is in harmony with the ingenuity of the Poet Einar Ben.
Galileo Across the street from Hotel Plaza, this attractive restaurant is named after the Italian philosopher Galileo Galilei (1564・642), an astronomer and physicist, who was among the first scientists to claim that the earth was round and orbited around the sun. The restaurant emphasizes Italian cuisine at its best, incorporating a Middle Eastern flair in its cooking.
Cafe Victor If you are looking for an excellent meal at a reasonable price whether lamb, fish, chicken, beef or salad, café Victor is the place, where you get a good value for your money! Café Victor is located in an historic building on the square Ingólfstorg, at nights, the café transforms into a mixture of a café and a bar, at werkends café Victor is a popular dance club from midnight till dawn, with no entrance fee.
Cafe Oliver Cafe Oliver is a cafe in the daytime and club in the evenings. It has a delicious day and evening menu and also we offer a selecion of brunches. When the evening comes the good times take over and it´s party time at Oliver´s. Staying open untill morning, dancing and partying. Dj's play thursday, friday, saturday and occationally on wednesdays and sundays. The club is 15 minutes from the Hotel.
Sólon A very good restaurant/ bar/ coffeehouse. It is a romantic bistro by day and a rocking nightclub for young people with dancing upstairs by night. It is one of these places that have the wonderful quality of being all in one, bistro, café, bar, restaurant and club. It take around 10 minutes to walk to that club.
Vegamót One of Reykjavik best keept nightclub secret, known to be a great restaurant this bar also turns nightclub on weekends with many of Icelands best DJ's turning their tricks in a non stop party. Food is served from noon until evening every day and as the night progresses the atmosphere starts to change and the crowd with it as Vegamót evolves into a wild nightclub. It takes around twelve minutes to walk to that club.
Partying in Reykjavik When it comes to nightlife Reykjavik, this "little town", has as much to offer as the largest cities in Europe. There are multinational nightclubs, bars and pubs some of which are open all night although most close at 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The larger venues often have a cover charge of EUR 5-10. The most popular watering holes are in the centre of town, in the oldest section of Reykjavik. Icelanders enjoy getting out at the weekends. Early in the evening it's quiet in town, almost as if nothing is going to happen, then, after midnight, the action really takes off in Reykjavik. Visiting a number of venues on the same night is common practise.
Nasa NASA nightclub was opened in the fall of 2001. Ever since it has been the most popular night club in Reykjavik. NASA is an essential ingredient in the whole Reykjavik nightlife experience and for many, the only ingredient they need. Nasa has recently established itself as Reykjavik’s main venue for live music. You will find Icelands hottest bands playing weekends at Nasa, as well as various events on weekdays ranging from Reykjavik Jazz festival to hardcore rock. Live bands on weekends and a disco after midnight. The second floor bar opens at 23:00 and the nightclub itself opens at midnight. Entrance fee is 1000 ISK. Nasa is a two minute walk from Hotel Plaza.
Kaffibarinn A hip bar with a bohemian atmosphere featured in the film 101 Reykjavik and formerly owned by Damon Albarn of Blur/Gorillaz fame. DJs at weekends.
National Museum of Iceland The National Museum of Iceland is a modern and progressive museum, providing a comprehensive picture of the past 1200 years of Iceland's cultural history, as well as offering diverse special and photographical exhibitions. The museum holds up to three thousand objects, among them most of the greatest treasures of the Icelandic nation. It takes around 10 minutes to walk from the Hotel Plaza to the museum.
Reykjavik Art Museum The former Warehouses of the Port of Reykjavík were opened as the new headqarters of the Reykjavik Art Museum in April 2000. The Hafnarhus´s six exhibition halls are located on two floors. It also has a multi-purpose space and an outdoor area in an enclosed courtyard. The exhibition halls house exhibitions from the Museum´s general collections, as well as from the Erró Collection, which is one of the prides of the Museum. In addition, other Icelandic and international art exhibitions are a regular feature of the Museum´s programme. The Museum is in the street next to Hotel Plaza.
Reykjavik Museum of Photography The museum holds a number of photographic exhibitions each year, both individually and in collaboration with other bodies. The museum has three fixed exhibition periods each year in the exhibition room on the 6th floor ofGrófarhús: in February, during the summer, and in November. Admission free. The museum is in the street next to Hotel Plaza.
National Theater The National Theatre of Iceland has been a leading institution on the Icelandic theatre scene ever since it opened formally on 20 April 1950. Today the theatre has three separate venues: the Main Stage (500 seats), the Black Box (180 seats) and the Workshop Stage (150 seats). Between ten and fourteen plays are premiered each season, comprising a varied repertoire of new Icelandic works, new foreign works, Icelandic and foreign classics, musicals, operas and children’s productions.
Blue Lagoon To make the day in Iceland you can choose between several great activities for each day. For example have a relaxing day at the famous Blue Lagoon. You can walk around the world famous Geysir area, a geothermal field where hot springs are in abundance, geysers explode and pools of mud bubble. Other location on this trip is the volcanic crater, Kerið, Gullfoss the queen of Icelands waterfalls and Þingvellir National Park and the oldest existing parliament in the world.
City Tour If you would like to experience Reykjavík in details with a guide, where he introduces Reykjavik´s past and present. During the tour the city´s main attractions are highlighted on foot and by bus. The main landmarks, such as The Pearl and Hallgrímskirkja church and the National Museum of Iceland are visited. Riding Tour If you prefer to be closer to the Icelandic nature, you can go to one of Ishestar riding tour. You can get a great experience and an adventure while you get to know the Icelandic horse, passing hot springs, waterfalls, lava fields and more. You can be picked up at Hotel Plaza any day, than taken to Jósalir where you get all the equipment you need for the ride. The horse ride takes about 1,5-2 hours. Afterwards the second part of the journey begins. You will take a bus to Geysir, the famous hot spring, and Gullfoss the majestic waterfall.
